We really look forward to receiving an EG delivery for obvious reasons but we also look forward to seeing what messages Todd and co include in the boxes...
We have been waiting with much anticipation for the arrival of this latest Alden. When we order in this colour of shell cordovan, Alden tell you that it may take up to a year before you receive the shoes. The reason being is that they have to wait until they have enough hide that is totally perfect with out any scar tissue as the lightness of the tanning will not cover any blemishes, where as on the darker colour these blemishes are covered in the tanning process. "Proper cordovan" only comes from the rump of the horse (therefore known as shell cordovan because of the shape of the leather when cut). This means that it can take a while to gather up enough leather that is free from marks such as those caused by the horse snagging it self on barbwire or such.
There is something special in this day and age when you have to be patient and wait for something that is beautiful and it cannot be turned out in vast quantities. It is a true pleasure to have something like this in the store and we look forward to some more "specials" with Alden in the coming spring.
Thanks to the guys at Nepenthes New York for sending over a few pairs of cycling gloves for us - getting my use out of them now the cold weather has set in.
