Ciaran and Chris over at Hurson.ie / Belfast Fanciers Club have produced an A5 compliments card for us using an image they recently used for a poster. Ciaran was inspired to come up with the slogan while watching Billy Bragg on television one night.

Glenn and his wife Lisa have started up Some Things That Fly to help promote their work, projects and inspiration.
Good luck to them both for the imminent release of their feature film Cherrybomb which is on release across the UK and Ireland from the 23rd April. We caught it at the Belfast Film Festival last year and highly recommend it - great soundtrack too. Glenn also recently did a bit of work on an Ad for us which will featured in the next issue of Inventory Magazine.

While visiting Sir Paul Smith's blog, 'I Like/Did This' the other day I came across this post about Steve Lazaride's new gallery which includes a comment on Conor Harrington's work. It seems he is a big fan. I have had my eye on Conor's work for a while too and was lucky enough to pick up his latest release from blkmrktgallery.
'Conor's from Cork in Ireland. His work is an incredibly successful collusion between 'fine' art and 'street' techniques. According to Conor himself, central to his oil canvasses is "the male figure, referring to the masculinity of urban culture". The men in Conor's paintings allude to the not necessarily heroic, but stoic and pensive male of the modernist painters; however the pieces are plastered with post-modern graffito flourishes in a pertinent clash of styles - "I'm interested in the dynamics between opposing elements" says the artist. Whilst both the male figures and abstract elements of the work are unarguably contemporary, the emotions they transmit are timeless, if currently under-rated - dignity, courage and a quiet sense of duty to oneself and those around us. At a time when men are accused of being somehow redundant within society Conor's work is an intelligent and modest reminder of their positive emotional contribution. It also shows that graff doesn't have to shock - or be soppy - to have substance.'

Back in March we commented on Hurson and Slater's posters for The Ulster Hall's re-opening. Iain Slater has commissioned a limited run of 250 foil block posters - signed, numbered and accompanied with the letter below explaining his connection with the gig and The Ulster Hall. We are also aware that it comes with the main man's approval!
Nicholas Felton will be making his first and only UK appearance next Thursday (April 2nd) at The Conor Lecture Theatre, University of Ulster, York Street. Read the short blurb below and there are some links to his work and also a link to buy tickets.
